A Revolution in Color

This year’s William Watson Harrington Lecture is scheduled on Thursday, May 4. Jane Kamensky, Professor of History at Harvard University and Pforzheimer Foundation Director of the Schlesinger Library will give a talk entitled “A Revolution in Color: The World of John Singleton Copley,” based on her upcoming book of the same title which will be a history of painting and politics in the age of revolution centered on the life of John Singleton Copley.

The next day, Kamensky will give a colloquium entitled “Teaching the American Revolution in the Age of Hamilton.”

Kamensky won the 2017 New-York Historical Society Book Prize for A Revolution in Color: The World of John Singleton Copley.

The William Watson Harrington Lecture will take place on Thursday, May 4 from 7:30 to 9 pm in Purnell 115 with a reception to follow. The colloquium will take place on Friday, May 5 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm in 203 Munroe Hall (the Department of History conference room).
