Biography
Kevin D. Impellizeri (he/him) is a historian and museum professional based in the Philadelphia area. Kevin earned a B.A. in History and Political Science from Rutgers University in 2006, an M.A. in History from the University of Delaware, and a PhD in History from the University of Delaware in 2020. His dissertation, titled “The Multiplayer Game: User Identity and the Meaning of Home Video Games in the United States, 1972-1994,” examined the evolution of home video game systems through the lenses of material culture studies, business history, and social and cultural history during the industry’s first two decades in the United States. His research fields include video game history, game studies, material culture studies, museum studies, and 20th and 21st century American social and cultural history. His current research focuses on video game related controversies and how they shape video games, past and present.
Kevin also has roughly 15 years of experience teaching a variety of subjects to diverse audiences in both the classroom and museum through in-person, virtual, and hybrid learning environments. He has developed educational programs, including tours, exhibits, lessons, after-school/summer youth programs, and educational games for Eastern State Penitentiary, Fort Mifflin on the Delaware, the Penn Museum, and the Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
