Before embarking on my PhD in History with a Museum Studies certificate,
I earned degrees in English, music performance, historical musicology,
and library and information science. Although I’m a born-and-raised
Iowan, my pursuit for knowledge has also led me to French Canada
(Montréal) and now to the mid-Atlantic. During Summer 2018, I created a
music-and-movement program for preschoolers for the Delaware Historical
Society. I currently volunteer at a wildlife rescue and help organize a
group writing program for PhD candidates to finish their dissertations.

Broadly, my research investigates twentieth-century American history
through the intersecting lenses of human-animal relations, species,
class, and race. Past publications and presentations have taken me from
California to the British Library (and in between); my research topics
have ranged from the history of cat litter to Girl Scout music,
birdsongs for children, and music concerts in American libraries. In
particular, I am interested in the racial constructions of animal
rights/welfare ideologies and praxis, as well as the boundaries between
humanity, animality, and technology.
