We
offer the option to obtain a teaching credential to outstanding
students who already possess a BA in a social studies discipline. To be
eligible for this option you must:
- Have met our GPA requirements in your BA: 2.75 overall, 3.0 major;
- Complete all requirements for a social studies education major at
UD, including all the education and related coursework requirements.
Download and complete a degree checklist
for your program. We will have to review your transcripts to determine
whether courses taken at another institution are equivalent to UD
courses;
- Pass the CORE (formerly Praxis I), complete the Inquiry and
Analysis Portfolio requirement, and submit an application for student teaching
one year before the start of the student teaching semester. You may be exempt from taking the Praxis CORE
exam if you meet certain qualifications such as GPA requirements or achieving a
“college ready” score on tests that measure reading, writing and math such as SAT
or ACT. The Office of Clinical Studies provides more information.
All classes are taken through Continuing Education at the University
of Delaware. Students usually complete prerequisite courses part-time
and return to the University full time for the semester before and
during student teaching.
Please contact a Program Coordinator for more information.
