Concentrations within the History major provide an opportunity for students to pursue a more focused program of study. Those who have clear career objectives or wish to go on to graduate studies may find the concentrations particularly helpful. Concentrations are currently offered in the following fields: American History, European History, and World History.
Requirements within the Department (for students who matriculated Fall 2018 to present):
- HIST 101, HIST 103 or HIST 105
- HIST 102, HIST 104 or HIST 106
- HIST 268 (pre-req for HIST 400)
- Two (2) History courses at the 100 or 200-level (excluding HIST 101,
102, 103, 104, 105, 106 and 268)*
- Six (6) History courses in the field of emphasis – four (4) of which must be at the 300-level or above.* Note: Two courses may be taken outside the Department of History with written approval from the advisor.
- HIST 400-Level Capstone
*One course must be from
pre-1700 (excluding HIST 101, 103 and 105) and one course must be from
Asian, African, Latin American or Middle Eastern History (excluding HIST 268)
Electives: After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.

that matriculated prior to Fall 2018 should refer to the correct check sheet
that corresponds to their matriculation year.
